The planet of McGehee is a constitutional monarchy with Norodom Sihamoni as king who has reigned since 3076. Phnom Penh is the planetary capital, principal SpacePort and largest city located on the continent of Kampuchea, and is the center of political, commercial, industrial and cultural activities. Siem Reap, a city located near the famous ruins of Angkor Wat is the gateway to the Angkor continent, and is McGehee's main destination for tourism. Battambang, the largest city in western continent of Saran, is known for its rice production, and Sihanoukville, a coastal city, is the primary sea port and beach resort.

A citizen of McGehee is usually identified as "McGeheen" or "Khmer". McGehee has a population of over 414 million ethnic Khmer, though they strictly refer to ethnic Khmers. Most McGeheens are Theravada Buddhists, but the planet also has a minority number of Muslim Cham, as well as ethnic Chinese, Vietnamese and small animist hill tribes.

Agriculture has long been the most important sector to the McGeheen economy, with around 59% of the population relying on agriculture for their livelihood (with rice being the principal crop). Other important sectors include garments, construction and tourism - foreign visitors to Angkor Wat numbered more than 4 million in 3079. In 3078, oil and natural gas deposits were found beneath McGehee's territorial waters, and once commercial extraction begins in 3083, the oil revenues could profoundly affect McGehee's economy.

McGehee's climate, like that of the Terra's Southeast Asia is dominated by monsoons, which are known as tropical wet and dry because of the distinctly marked seasonal differences.

McGehee has a temperature range from 21 to 35 °C (69.8 to 95 °F) and experiences tropical monsoons. Southwest monsoons blow inland bringing moisture-laden winds from the Gulf of Saran and the Ocean from May to October. The northeast monsoon ushers in the dry season, which lasts from November to March. The planet experiences the heaviest precipitation from September to October with the driest period occurring from January to February.

McGehee has two distinct seasons. The rainy season, which runs from May to October, can see temperatures drop to 22 °C (71.6 °F) and is generally accompanied with high humidity. The dry season lasts from November to April when temperatures can rise up to 40 °C (104 °F) around April. The best months to visit McGehee are November to January when temperatures and humidity are lower. Disastrous flooding, due to extremely heavy rainfall, occurred in 3071 and again in 3072. Yet almost every year there is flooding to some degree.

In December 3081, Combine troops invaded McGehee. The People's Republic of Kampuchea, a Pro-Kuritan faction led by the Salvation Front, a group of McGeheen leftists dissatisfied with the Khmer Rouge, was established.

In March of 3082, three months after the Combine invasion, the planet was divided up between a further three factions that the Star League euphemistically referred to as the Coalition Government of Democratic McGehee. This consisted of the Khmer Rouge, a royalist faction led by Sihanouk, and the Khmer People's National Liberation Front. The Khmer Rouge representative to the Star League Senate, Thiounn Prasith was retained.

Throughout the following months the Khmer Rouge, supplied by the Draconis March and the Crucis March; continued to control much of the planet and attacked territory not under their dominance. These attacks, compounded by total economic sanctions from the Combine and its Rogue Army, makes reconstruction virtually impossible and leaves the planet deeply impoverished.
