History:
Tenkai is the second
son of the ruling family of the Mitsuhide Clan, a distant branch of house
Kurita from the planet of Yorii. Though merchants by trade, the Mitsuhide
were nonetheless samurai by class and like any good son, Tenkai enrolled
himself in Dieron Gymnasium upon graduation from primary school, proceeding
to join one of the many district line regiments in due course. Though far
from an incompetent mechwarrior, Tenkai's career in the Dieron
Regulars was lackluster at best, placing solidly in the middle of his formation.
It was not until his transfer to the quartermaster corps did his talents
manifest themselves whereby he demonstrated an uncanny mastery of logistics
and finance. Though offered a promotion at the end of his term of service,
Tenkai declined and resigned his commission, instead going on to become
a highly successful businessman in the following years, with investments
that took him through the length and breadth of the Combine and beyond.
It was no surprise then that he was soon approached by agents of the ISF
who wished to make use of the contacts and resources he had at his disposal
and being a loyal citizen Tenkai agreed. In the coming years he would find
such a relationship quite advantageous in his business dealings throughout
the Inner Sphere, increasing his wealth several fold.
Tenkai's appointment to the post of ambassador was a reactionary
one on his part, due primary to his personal indignation at the Dragon's
acquiescence to the demands of the Star League and its Terran Security
Act in ceding Yorii to the SLDF. Through use of his contacts in the ISF
and his substantial wealth and influence he somehow convinced the Coordinator
to grant him the post whereupon his first act was to relocate the official
embassy of the Draconis Combine from Terra to the Mitsuhide estates on
Yorii, much to the consternation of the Star League's governing
body, preserving his family's autonomy from the local government.
At present Tenkai's efforts are focused on curtailing the Star
League's growing power over its member states and weakening its
hold Combine planets that have been ceded to the League. Due to this, he
is quite a controversial figure in local and interstellar politics, overtly
and subtly opposing the Senate's attempts at greater consolidation
of power.
Personality Profile:
Tenkai can be said to be both a mercantile yet at the same time a nationalistic
person. On the one hand he is as calculating (literally as he can reduce
even the most ephemeral variables to numeric values) and mercenary as any
businessmen yet like the paradoxical Ghost Regiments, Tenkai is fiercely
loyal to the Combine. Though his actions may seem wholly self interested,
in all actuality all of it is done in the name of the Coordinator and the
greater glory of the Combine. Tenkai is a schemer at heart and his plots
are mercurial and unfathomable to this end he presents the opposite facade
to throw everyone off. In public he affects the mien of a jovial merchant
prince, someone who is loose, amicable and generous in stark contrast to
his uptight staff to mask a man that is utterly ruthless and controlling.
