Godwyn Li (Li Ing Chin) has always had Maskirovka blood in him. For generations stretching back to the time of Kurnath Liao the House of Li has served the House of Liao as its invisible guardians and enforcers, striking from the shadows to eliminate foreign interlopers and instill fear among dissenters. Born on Liao, the cradle of the Confederation, on December 3, 3030, raised in the traditional Chinese style Godwyn has been taught to seek his place in the perfected order of things and to serve his Emperor (The Chancellor) to his utmost. As such the entirety of his existence has been dedicated to serving the interests of House Liao and eventually taking his fathers place among the Maskirovka.
Much of Godwyns early life is relatively unremarkable, he was tutored in a wide variety of subjects ranging from arithmetic to unarmed combat then later enrolled in the Liao State University where he graduated with a double degree in literature and political science. He continued his studies in Sian where he was introduced to the reigning chancellor Romano and the young Sun-Tzu Liao, his future master, to whom he formed a passing friendship. He then returned to Liao and spent a year in the Dynasty Guard but soon resigned when he found his true calling as captain of the Fei Li, a dropship of the Cargomaster-class in his houses possession. It was during his tenure as captain of the Fei Li that Godwyn began to hone his skills as one of the Maskirovka.
Officially the House of Li was a noble family of no consequence that made its money through exporting goods native to Liao such as horses, processed meats and other agricultural products and as such maintains a good sized fleet of dropships. Unofficially their trade and ostracism by their fellow nobles was a convenient faade to mask their clandestine activities of monitoring dissent amongst the merchant class (the group of people most prone to harbor dissent) and providing support to pro-Liao groups plotting revolt in enemy planets. He captained the Fei Li for seven years and during such time was responsible for putting down innumerable revolts that would never be heard of and helping to lay the groundwork for Sun-Tzu Liaos War of Reclamation, sowing discord in the holdings of the Federated Suns. Another event of note was his arranged marriage to the Chancellors cousin Serana Liao in 3055, a custom established by the heads of both families many centuries ago, with whom he has fathered three children, Augustus (Born 3057), Allistine and Alphrem (Fraternal twins born in 3060).
The high point in his early career was his participation in the Joshua incident that cemented the alliance between Free Worlds League and the Capellan Confederation. Later on the intelligence he gathered would help orchestrate the conquest of the St. Ives Compact (though with much reservation due to the economic repercussions which he expressed to the Chancellor) and would help blunt the economic consequences of rebuilding the St. Ives Commonality. As a matter of course he was promoted from senior agent to director of the Liao Commonality in 3067 while his father retired from that position. He would serve as director for ten years before being tapped by the Chancellor to take the position of Ambassador to the DMM to better monitor the activities of rival houses on Terra and within the DMM. Though he has settled to a less rigorous position his field days are far from over. Thugh he currently holds embassy at Castle Brian he still travels frequently across the Inner Sphere aboard his Claymore-class dropship the Long Feng with a hand picked team of Maskirovka operatives who undertake various missions in the name of the House of Liao.
Personality Profile:
Given his mercantile experience during his early years with the Maskirovka, Godwyn plays up the stereotype of the typical buck toothed Chinese trader to the hilt, displaying a jovial if somewhat pompous faade to throw people off guard. He plies them with food, drink and stories to loosen their tongues and allow him to take their measure of their true skills and intentions. As an agent of the Maskirovka and a former director no less, Godwyn is patriotic spider in the middle of an intricate web of schemes and conspiracies, forever calculating and plotting in the name of the House Liao.
