PLANETARY DETAILS:
Rigil Kentarus was a beautiful planet, blessed with a rare inhabitable moon, Riken Minor, when it was discovered in the first days of Terran exploration. One of the first worlds to be settled, both planet and moon were bustling centers of industry and commerce during the days of the Star League. Located near the heart of the Terran Hegemony, both the planet and moon were heavily fortified by the SLDF, with Castles Brian and surface-to-orbit defense stations on each.
During the crisis that brought down the First Star League, however, Amaris troops captured the Riken complexes in a well-coordinated blitzkrieg and used the orbital weapons to bombard the planet below, where remnants of the SLDF unit posted on the moon had gone to regroup. At such ranges, however, the aim was inaccurate, and missed shots from both the planetary and lunar bases delivered massive damage to the surface of both worlds. In the years after the League's fall, under the banner of the Lyran state, Rigil Kentarus and its moon began to recover from the devastation, despite numerous attacks launched by the Free Worlds League and the Draconis Combine.
The twin capitals of West Romaine on the planet's large southern continent of Naskia, and Destina Station on Riken Minor's Lesser Plateau continent, maintain the bulk of each world's commercial and administrative infrastructure. The large spaceport city of Mesopita, located on Worrens, Rigil Kentarus' northern continent, is the planet's principal link to the moon and the stars beyond, and so is also home to a sizeable portion of the planetary militia.
[3085 Update] Since the formation of the Second Star League much of Rigil Kentaurus' former glory has been restored. The Star League Defence Force repaired almost 90% of the Riken Castle Brian complexes and the basing of several SLDF units on Rigil Kentaurus' moon accounts for much of the moon's economic activity. Destina Station is ever-expanding and property prices have never fallen, only gone up. Rigil Kentaurus itself, in contrast, remains not much more than an agricultural and industrial hub, albeit a highly important one. Though tourism accounts for 40% of the industry in Riken's capital, the lush garden city of West Romaine, its economic activity still falls far short of Savannah. To paraphrase a popular slogan, "Riken is where the fun is."
Some detractors argue that not only the fun is at Riken, but the crime too. As with most military bases Destina Station has its fair share of camp followers of varying disrepute. That the military presence comes with the accompanying vices of smuggling, gambling, prostitution and intoxication, is surprising to no-one. These vices each contribute in their own way to the nightlife and excitement - and hence economic development - of Riken.

Until now the Star League refuses to acknowledge either the legitimacy of the Dragon's claim to the worlds that traditionally belong to the Draconis Combine, or the olive branch of peace that has been offered to the Star League. Instead in their arrogance Star League has sent invasion armadas not only to Altair and Yorii, but also to the district capital of Dieron, wishing to deny even that illustrious system to the Dragon. An insult of this magnitude cannot the Dragon tolerate.
Fortunately the Draconis Combine has anticipated this eventuality. Dieron will hold in the face of this assault, and the reserves for punitive action have already been set aside. The targets which will face the Dragon's wrath are Fomalhaut, Caph and Rigil Kentaurus.
Your assignment is Rigil Kentaurus, where you will assist the 2nd Genyosha in their mission. It is not the Dragon's intent to occupy the system. Remember that this is a punitive strike - your mission is to eliminate all SLDF troops in the system. Burn all materiel that cannot be carried off; leave nothing to them. Raze every military installation to the ground. Collateral damage is not a factor.
