Though no one can positively determine exactly when New Mars was colonized, it somehow became a destination for the refugees and deserters looking to escape the ravages of the Succession Wars. Without the resources of a Great House or a large corporation to underwrite their colonization efforts, the world's first inhabitants had to overcome both the vastness of space and their new home's native environment in order to build their new civilization. Many did not survive. Those that did, however, found at least a shadow of what they were looking for: a world far away from the war and intrigue plaguing the Inner Sphere. Though not immune to the problems of humanity, the people of the world, known as New Mars perservered.

As the Sucession Wars dragged on, more and more of the dregs of society found their way into the Periphery. Piracy, alwaysa problem that had plagued the outer reaches, became a veritable way of life as people became more and more disenfranchised during the long decade of war. This world, stranded among the vastness of space past the Lyran Alliance, was no exception. The soldiers and citizens who simply sought a new life among the stars were forced to deal with local pirates just to survive. In many cases they turned directly to piracy, lured in by the potential rewards. It was during these 'Formative' years that the world slowly transformed into a crossroads of sorts, with pirates and other traders from across the Circinus Federation and the Rim Collection using the system to trade and exchange goods.

What the colonists found when they arrived was a world of five continents, four seas, a fairly reasonable weather pattern, abundant fresh water, and a profusion of life forms that seemed to accommodate the colonists very well. It was quickly discovered that the planet was best-suited to agriculture. By crossing Terran plants with varieties indigenous to New Mars, the colonists had soon bred several important grain crops. A strain of wheat, which is extremely hardy and now grows throughout the Timbuktu Theater. Since then, New Mars, with its countless square kilometers of open rolling country, has always managed to supply enough food for itself and its five nearest neighbor planets, despite the decline in agricultural technology brought on by the wars. Though its agricultural strength is usually overshadowed by the fact that New Mars is an independant world, the planet`s fertility is vital to the well-being of the entire Alarion Province.

EMPLOYER SITUATION REPORT:
Our own LIC can tell us almost nothing about this enigmatic little world that produces an abundance of crops to feed the Lyran populace. The Lyran Alliance Civil Services Division has obtained authorization to dispatch an Exploration Expedition to New Mars. Our Expedition Forces will consist of a Lance of Shackleton All-Environment Survey Vehicle (AESV), a Mammoth Class DropShip, of which one of its five massive cargo decks capable of holding a little more than 8,000 tons of cargo will be designated for your use, a QR 243 HPG Relay Satellite, that our Exploration team will deploy into a geostationary orbit around New Mars, and a Scout Class JumpShip.

The political and military face on the planet is unknown. Our LIC Agents indicate that it’s a ‘fluid’ situation and that any given Warlord will claim that it is he or she who is the Rules Maker. We require two objectives of your command, Protection and Reconnaissance.

We need you to guard our Exploration Team and to uncover who is actually the Warlord in charge of New Mars.

Last Resort and Dirty Half Dozens were allied on this contract

PRIMARY OBJECTIVES:
1) Make sure the Shackletons are returned to the Lyran Alliance
2) Ensure that the QR 243 HPG Relay Satellite is deployed and functioning

SECONDARY OBJECTIVES:
1) Determine which Warlord is the Political Leader
2) Determine which Warlord is the Military Leader
