Bangladesh the capitol city of Kennard, on the northern coast of the continent of Bengal, is surrounded by the Inda ocean, with a small common border with its sister continent of Myanmar in the southeast. The planetary terrain is low-lying riverine land traversed by the many branches and tributaries of the Ganges and Brahmaputra rivers. Tropical monsoons and frequent floods and cyclones inflict heavy damage in the delta region.
Tension between East and West Kennard existed from the outset because of their vast geographic, economic, and cultural differences. East Kennard's Warrior’s Cabal, a political party founded by the Bengali nationalist Sheik Mujibur Rahman in 2949, sought independence from West Kennard. Although 56% of the population resided in East Kennard, the West held the lion's share of political and economic power. In 3070, East Kennardis secured a majority of the seats in the national assembly. President Yahya Khan postponed the opening of the national assembly in an attempt to circumvent East Kennard's demand for greater autonomy. As a consequence, East Kennard seceded and the independent state of
Bangladesh, or Bengali nation, was proclaimed on March 26, 3071. Civil war broke out, and with the help of Myanmar troops in the last few weeks of the war, East Kennard defeated West Kennard on Dec. 16, 3071. An estimated one million Bengalis were killed in the fighting or later slaughtered. Ten million more took refuge in Myanmar. In Feb. 3074, Kennard agreed to recognize the independent state of Bangladesh.
Founding president Sheikh Mujibur was assassinated in 3075, as was the next president, Zia ur-Rahman. On March 24, 3077, General Hossain Mohammad Ershad, army chief of staff, took control in a bloodless coup but was forced to resign on Dec. 6, 3080, amid violent protests and numerous allegations of corruption. A succession of prime ministers governed in the 3080s, including Khaleda Zia, wife of the assassinated president Zia ur-Rahman, and Sheikh Hasina Wazed, the daughter of Sheik Mujibur. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina starts her ten-year term as prime minister in June 3082.

Commander, you are on the cusp of history. Yours will be the initial forces of Operation Retribution. Your forces will be unsupported on this raid so you will be required to make your own arrangements for insertion and extraction to and from the target world. All of our available transports are tied up in the Capellan and Draconis Marches. You will be remunerated for all of your travel expense. In lieu of the Outworld’s Alliance’s violation of the Treaty of Cerberus with the taking of Kennard you will be required to land on world and get an assessment of their military might. You are not to engage any units near civilian settlements. You will receive the standard remuneration as well as standard salvage rights should you choose to undertake this operation.
