PLANETARY DETAILS:
Visitors to New Kyoto are often struck by the heavy Japanese influence in the local culture. Indeed, this exotic yet terrestrial world once boasted itself as a major center of the Buddhist faith in the Lyran Commonwealth, and the temple in Tooshodai-ji possesses the Inner Sphere's largest Amida Buddha sculpture (over 110 meters in height). These obvious cultural influences have often led travelers to New Kyoto to suspect that the planet's history includes a lingering occupation or long-standing allegiance to the Draconis Combine but, in fact, neither of the above applies.

Settled during humanity's first exodus into space, New Kyoto's colonists hailed from Terra's eastern Asia region, particularly from the nations surrounding the Sea of Japan. The Japanese segment of the colonial population, by far the most numerous, took an active role in shaping the early social structures on this world, even going so far as to style the planetary ruler a Daimyo (warlord). Life in the early days was difficult, primarily due to the virulence of native life-forms. Many of New Kyoto's fiercest native predators, such as the vicious ki-rian or the unstoppable armor bear, claimed hundreds of lives before widespread hunting protocols brought their numbers under control.

Even today, people are strongly advised never to travel alone and unarmed in the wild reaches of this world, and export of the local fauna is strictly prohibited. New Kyoto's ample resources and fertile soil spawned the formation of numerous heavy industries, including the development of myomers, advanced electronics, and military-grade lasers. The Kyoto College, exclusively devoted to the study of myomer technology for military as well as medical applications, was arguably one of the most prestigious of its kind throughout the Succession Wars era, while Doering Electronics and RAMTech Industries were once among the chief military suppliers to the Federation of Skye and the Lyran Commonwealth.

Through the centuries of conflict that followed the fall of the Star League, New Kyoto was the target of several raids by the nearby Free Worlds League, though it has remained always remained a Lyran holding.

New Kyoto's capital city of Hirihito and the temple of Tooshodai-ji are both located on the northern continent of Asharu. The city of Yonei is located on Kalasaka, the larger of the planet's equatorial landmasses, along with one of the largest planetary reservations for the now-endangered ki-rian population. Koshimatu, the smaller equatorial continent, is home to RAMTech's corporate headquarters, in the city of Oshaktu, while Kawnaku and Marker Electronics may be found on the southern island continent of Zuishami.

World has a wide industrial base that produces many different types of products and exports most of its output.
Agricultural Dependence
World has abundant environment producing enough to sustain the population using agriculture technologies; limited exports.

EMPLOYER SITUATION REPORT:
Operation Holy Grail is underway and a massive assault force is enroute to take Hesperus II from the Lyran Alliance. As that is happening, worlds between Hesperus II and the Free Worlds League are being targeted for assaults. You could say we are building a bridge over a river. We need a mercenary command to supplement the invasion force being assembled.

The Iron Guard has been given the honor of leading this assault and its commanding officer, Colonel Liselle Marshall, is in charge of the entire invasion. The 31st Marik Militia and your command will be technically subordinate, but just as crucial to this invasion’s success. The Zechetinu II-class FWLS Haptopoda and a small number of attack dropships will escort the assault force into the system and then continue to provide orbital eye and fire support. On the ground, both battlemech regiments will be supported by three regiments of armor, and two infantry regiments each. Both units will also have a full battle armor battalion and an aerospace fighter wing at their disposal.

The planet’s primary defensive force is the 32nd Lyran Guard RCT. The 32nd Lyran Guard RCT is a unit that has faced a shunned reputation since the FedCom Civil War. The 32nd turned against Katherine’s Loyalists in that conflict (and turned their guns against other Lyran Guardsmen). Since then they have been treated like the hated cousin, even though few of the soldiers in the unit today were part of the 32nd during the Civil War. The 32nd Lyran Guard is primarily staffed with soldiers that are skilled enough to warrant assignment to a Lyran Guards command but not well-connected enough to get transferred to a more prestigious command. SAFE has attached a skill rating of “Green” to the entire RCT, primarily due to the fact that they haven’t been part of a major military operation in years.

The Lyran Guardsmen are backed by a respectable planetary militia force called the New Kyoto Armored Corps, which mixes battalions of armor and mechanized infantry, supported by artillery and air defense detachments. The average Kyotan soldier is not to be under-estimated; they are particularly well-trained and equipped, especially for planetary militia. Due to the armored nature of the local wildlife, most Kyotan soldiers are loaded for bear (literally), with the heaviest rifles available and lots of infantry support weapons that can do respectable damage to a vehicle or Battlemech.

SAFE has sent confirmation that New Kyoto has a strong LIC and even LOKI presence to monitor the 32nd Lyran Guard. Once we land, those assets will likely be redirected at us. So we are very concerned about sabotage and resistance-style attacks from the onset.

Aside from the defenders, the geography of New Kyoto also poses problems. This world has a large population, many cities and communities, and it’s all spread out across several landmasses. New Kyoto’s capital city of Hirihito and the temple of Tooshodai-ji are both located on the northern continent of Asharu. The city of Yonei is located on Kalasaka, the larger of the planet’s equatorial landmasses, along with one of the largest planetary reservations for the now-endangered ki-rian population. Koshimatu, the smaller equatorial continent, is home to RAMTech’s corporate headquarters, in the city of Oshaktu, while Kawnaku and Marker Electronics may be found on the southern island continent of Zuishami. Much of the world is covered in tropical or semi-tropical jungle and grasslands that favor the defender and can mask troop movements. Meanwhile, planetwide, the local wildlife kills around 1-2 thousand people every year.

Taking the planetary capital and planting a flag won’t be enough. The invasion force will need to secure all of these continents and landmasses (as well as key industrial sites) to fully control the world. Your unit will likely split off after landing to secure a specific target or to attack a specific military unit, at Colonel Marshall’s discretion. After that initial objective is taken, Colonel Marshall will probably assess the situation and decide where to send your unit next. This pattern may continue until New Kyoto is secure.

The invasion force is staging at Thermopolis. Link up with them there.

PRIMARY OBJECTIVES:
1) Participate in the invasion of New Kyoto
2) Assist other invasion units as-needed

SECONDARY OBJECTIVES:
1) Do whatever you can to “win the hearts and minds” of this population
2) Don’t become victims of the wildlife, but don't eradicate them either
